Sass Pordoi, La Terrazza delle Dolomiti (m. 2950)

Italiano/English

There are places where everything disappears as soon as you start looking aroud. Places where you can breathe the magic atmosphere of Nature, of the Universe. Places where you feel to be a real part of this big project which is called life and at the same time you realize to be just a little creature in a wide world. Places where we can do nothing but stay still and silent whatching the beauty of Nature, enchanted and intimidated by her majestic force.

Sass Pordoi is one of these places.

When you are here, the distance between sky and earth disappers.

You are captured by the beautiful landscape of the Sella mountain chain, the Sassolungo, the Marmolada and its glaciers.

The name "Dolomites" comes from the French mineralogist Déodat de Dolomieu (1750-1801) who was the first to describe the rock, dolomite, as a type of carbonate rock which is responsible for the characteristic shapes and colour of these mountains.

The Dolomites even called the "pale mountains," are located in north-eastern Italy and are shared between the provinces of Belluno, Trento, Udine e Pordenone.
In 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
